The Truth About the Last Two Years of My Life
- Lisa La Colla
- Just Lisa ❤︎
Hey Storyteller, Lisa here! I’m a Professional Creative Writing Coach who founded a writing method based on Healthy Strategy + Love. Today, I’m gathering all my courage to actually get more personal and share my vulnerabilities with you!
June is the month of the anniversaries.
My Grandma died.
My Dog died.
I met my partner for the very first time.
I finished Drama school.
It’s almost two years exactly since that chapter of my life ended.
Seven years of my life spent in schools (3 Bachelor’s + 2 Master’s + 2 Drama School) - I’m not counting 5 years of elementary school + 3 middle school + 5 high school.
My entire life has basically been structured according the school year.
My partner makes fun of me because I still consider June and September as the important months.
“Lisa, You’re not a student anymoreeeee!!!”.
It’s easy to get lost without a school deciding your deadlines for you.
Especially if you don’t get a “regular job” - whatever that means - with fixed meetings.
And it was extremely easy for my mind to start wondering:
“What the hell have I actually done in the past two years?”
asks my mind…
I’m not an Instagram girl. Never have. My account is actually frozen to my Drama School Graduation day. I can’t really go there to see “my achievements”
SOOO, with no further ado, I decided to make a list here.
Because I need it.
Also, I don’t have that many people reading me on Substack, so it really feels like I’ll be the only one reading this and that’s totally fine by me.
(Why am I posting even if I know nobody will read it? - Because I want to get used to posting regularly and actually also talking about myself as well).
The Last Two Years of My Life
90% worked on my mindset which involves:
-
Lots of crying, therapy, learning hard truths, cutting people out of my life, getting my first surgery (nothing too worrying, but needed to be done for precaution!)
-
Developing a better and healthy relationship with my health insurance & actually starting to do all my medical checkups
-
Coping with my partner unemployment and support with a new position
-
Daily work on my relationship with money
Learning to breathe before yelling, and learning how to stop yelling to preserve my singing voice (hey, this is a hard one because I’m Italian, and we’re looooud)”.
10% ALL of the following:
-
Officialized my business that is called Storytelling With Love (previously Screenwriting With Love)
-
Build, destroyed and rebuild my official website countless times (formarly 3, practically over 50)
-
Started my Opera Training with the best teacher ever (it took me over 10 years to find her)
-
Started living with my partner in a new apartment
-
Wrote my very first Novel
-
Taught a 6-week Screenwriting Workshop
-
Changed my lifestyle with intention and purpose: reduced alcohol to once a month, increased the hours of sleep and anticipated drastically my bedtime (I’m a by 10.30 PM girl now)
-
Did 2 amazing auditions that I’d been waiting for years
-
Started to prioritize my singing by: drinking 3 Litres of water every single day, take the stairs, doing vocal steaming, treating my mind and body as if I’m the star in a 8 shows/week (so that when it happens, my lifestyle will be pretty much what I’m already used to), blowing minimum 20 ballons/a day (Monday-Friday)
-
Launched my Online Shop
-
Started a Weekly Newsletter on Podia & Substack
-
Transformed my weekends into a NON-NEGOTIABLE-NON-WORKING time
-
Started a German course (I did A1.1 in May and attending the A1.2 right now!), every day for 3 hours - this was one of the hardest things to start and one of the most beautiful to actually do.
-
A lot of work in my personal relationships, as a girlfriend living with her partner, as a daughter, as a cousin, as grandchild, as a friend. (always working in progress)
-
Silenced my personal Instagram account - using 2/a month only my business account
-
Changed my relationship with Whatsapp
Read a lot of self-help books
